Traffic suspended fourth time, landslides closes Jammu-Srinagar highway

Banihal, July 12: The Traffic movement on 300 kilometer long Jammu Srinagar national highway was suspended on Sunday again the fourth time in a week due to the heavy rains and landslides at different parts on the highway between Batote and Banihal.
Reports said that the highway was closed on Sunday morning when landslides occurred in Gangroo Ramsoo, Maroog Ramban,chanderkote and in Batote area. Hundreds of vehicles including vehicles of Shri Amarnath pilgrims are stranded between Ramban and Batote.
SSP Traffic national highway Sanjay Kotwal said that the land-slides came down between Ramban,Chanderkote and Batote are cleared by BRO up to noon. However he Said that the road blockage came at Gangroo Ramsoo create hurdles to the work of BRO due to continue raining.
He said that after the clearness of slide near Gsngroo Ramsoo continue raining creates problems to BRO and more stones and slides are coming down near Gangroo from the hill side. SSP traffic more said that near about 300 to 400 vehicles of Amarnath pilgrims are stranded between Ramban and Batote.
He more said that after the rain starts the rest of Amarnath vehicles were stopped at Jammu and after the proper clearness of road they will be allowed towards Amarnath shrine. An officer of BRO said that their men and machinery are pressed in to action to clear the slides on different parts on the highway.
He said that continue raining creates hurdle in their work near Gangroo Ramsoo because more stones and muck are came down on this location of highway from hill side. He more said that if weather permits then the tough Gangroo slide can be cleared for the restoration of traffic movement on highway. He more said that they are trying their best to clear the slide as soon as possible. But it is risky for them to work in continue raining and fall down of stones from hill slide.
