Heavy rain disrupts normal life in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, July 13: Normal life was severely hit by monsoon followed by heavy rains and thundershowers and lightening in the entire Rajouri and Poonch district. With the monsoon for the last few days and the region received widespread rains resulting few Kacha houses have been damaged in Kotranka tehsil, an important culvert on Jammu-Poonch highway in the vicinity of Rajouri city was damaged. Many roads and several kanals of fertile land have also suffered heavy loss due to floods in several areas. GREF with the help of army has started construction of temporary bridge at the damaged culvert site and it was hoped that soon the traffic on this road would be restored. Mumtaz Choudhry Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) said that three Kacha houses have been damaged in the heavy rains in Kotranka tehsil in the district while a culvert on Jammu Poonch has been damaged in Rajouri city in the early hours of the morning today. He added that concerned revenue officials have been directed to assess the loss to Kacha Houses and to identify whether the damage fall under State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) category or not. "Vehicular traffic to district Poonch has been diverted from old bus stand side and on the Rajouri-Thanamandi-Bafliaz (in Poonch district) road. Light vehicles have been allowed to ply via old bus stand while heavy vehicles have been diverted from Rajouri-Bafliaz road to avoid traffic jam in the city" said ADC. |
