Jammu, Jan 19: As the din of dissolution of Assembly and holding fresh elections is getting loud by the day in the political spectrum of J&K, an assessment of Centre led by BJP to ascertain the prospects of the party in mid term polls presents a grim picture: in the event of this option getting materialized, BJP will be able to save just two seats. This is a startling yet honest revelation based on a quick and cursory survey made in the entire state, sending shock waves to the BJP.
Sources said with PDP president Mehbooba Mufti taking too long to take the call on government formation, this uncertainty is prompting the opponents and politicians from Dr Farooq Abdullah to his son Omar Abdullah to ridicule and scoff at PDP with an uncalled for advice to dissolve the Assembly and go in for elections in the state. Latest to join this chorus today was the JKNPP Prof Bhim Singh who also asserted in the present circumstances holding elections was the only option if popular government could not assume office.
Sources said with period of uncertainty getting stretched, the Centre has got an assessment on the ground level through agencies in order to ascertain the position of the BJP in various constituencies of Jammu. Though this assessment is being done in a hurriedly carried out survey, the results have jolted the party leadership as a positive picture has emerged only from two constituencies -Jammu East and one constituency in Udhampur district where a young MLA considered to be honest and a person of political conviction registered victory for the party in 2014 Assembly polls, said the sources.
In rest of the constituencies which are represented by those who remained ministers during last 10 months, the BJP has very disappointing, rather a grim picture in terms of public support and popularity, a scene which the Centre has sense well will have adverse impact on the party prospects in the event of holding of polls, said the sources. Sources further said from senior most ministers to the juniors, all have cumulatively failed the party with their abysmal and appalling performances in their respective ministries as none of them have made a single effort to do anything for Jammu as a whole nor for their constituencies, something that has been registered negatively in the minds of the supporters. Sources further said the survey carried out through agencies has suggested that people are angry and perturbed over the fact that vital portfolios with BJP ministers from Housing and Urban Development, Power, PHE, Health did not fetch anything for Jammu, not to speak of Social Welfare ministry in which a plethora of Central Schemes are unheard in Jammu. Same goes for Industries ministry which remained almost non existent for Jammu and the group of ministers of state who remained a sort of 'untouchable' lot for the people for they pleaded helplessness contending they had no powers to do their works.
