Jammu, Jan 19: On one hand numerous Ayurvedic doctors, (Indian System of Medicines) are running from pillar to post to get government jobs, but on the other ten bedded AYUSH unit of district Doda is still running on internal arrangement nine years after its establishment.
Well placed sources told Early Times, that AYUSH unit Doda was established in 2007, but posts of doctors have not been sanctioned so far. It is pertinent to mention here that the state government has earned praise at National platform for serving its citizens, but on the contrary, nothing has been done to strengthen health care facilities.
They further said that the state government had established 17 AYUSH units in all major government run Allopathic hospitals and Medical colleges including GMCH Jammu, District hospital Gandhi Nagar, Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua, Pulwama, Shopian, Handwara, Budgam, JLNM hospital Rainawari, Anantnag, Baramulla and two units of tehsil Bhaderwah including Drudo and Baloot. Astonishingly, the units are still running on arrangement basis due to lack of manpower. Sources said that these units have been facing acute dearth of staff since these were created. "Few units are running with a Medical Officer, two Pharmacists, and a Class IV need-based employee, and others are being run only by Pharmacists", the sources claimed. "Few years back, department (AYUSH) forwarded a list of sanctioned posts of around 1200 Ayurvedic/Unani doctors across the state including Dispensaries, Units and Hospitals to government but surprisingly, it has rejected it and sought another list. The department again forwarded a list of 600 posts but yet government has not responded", sources alleged.
Indian Public Health Standard (IPHS) has suggested that an AYUSH unit should have three doctors of Ayurvedic, three of Unani and three Pharmacists including a senior Pharmacist for store, four numbers of FMPHW employees for Panchkarma, two male and two female, but the guidelines are not being followed in state, the sources claimed. They said that it seems the state government is not interested to fill the vacant posts of doctors in Ayurvedic/ Unani Dispensaries and Units which were established across the state. ISM Director General, J&K, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar didn't respond to repeated phone calls. |
