Kathua, Jan 19: A nomad pregnant woman on Wednesday delivered her baby in the hospital premises of Government hospital in Kathua, after she was allegedly not allowed inside the labour room by the doctors highlighting glaring example of inhumanity. As per the sources, the woman identified as Jamila Begam (pregnant woman) alongwith her mother-in-law came to the hospital for delivery purpose, after she developed labour pain at home. They came in the hospital and tried to enter the labour room. Unfortunately, the woman was allegedly not allowed by the staff members as well as doctors in the premises to enter there and directed her to bring registration card. During this time, sources said, the mother-in-law of the pregnant continuously to the doctors to allow her inside the labour room because Jamila had developed severe pain. Even as she made repeated requests, the woman was not allowed by the doctors and then, she sat on the floor of the hospital while crying for help. However, no one listen. After one and half hour, sources said, the woman gave birth to a baby in the premises of the hospital but not inside the labour room. Sources said, the doctors and staff members tried to defuse situation by allegedly pressuring them (victims) not to disclose anything before the media persons. When contacted, Superintendent Kathua Hospital, Anup Manhas completely denied the incident and claimed she delivered baby inside the labour room. The victim was accompanied by the ASHA worker, he claimed, which was denied by the victim family members. When asked about the name of the victim, the Superintendent denied sharing her name. Notably, several protest demonstrations have held in the district against the gynecologist doctors for allegedly promoting private practice. "Two doctors including a male and woman doctor allegedly misbehave with the patients (delivery cases) and pressurize the women to come in the private clinics for their deliveries," alleged Raj Kumar, president, Youva Sangath in Kathua. Kumar alleged that they have held many protests against the arrogant and misbehavior of doctors with the patients but no action has been taken against them. The poor people have become easy victims of these doctors and today's incident was one of the instances, he alleged. He demanded action against the erring doctors. |
