Raj Bhawan may recall list of 1032 tainted officials | | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 19: While all efforts are being made to put in a popular Government in place in J&K which was pushed into political uncertainty again following demise of sitting Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the interim imposition of Governor's rule in the State has provided yet another opportunity to Governor NN Vohra to clean up the administrative machinery by weeding out the tainted and corrupt before a popular Government is put in place. Sources in the administration divulge that the Governor had sought the list of the notoriously corrupt and tainted officers who have either managed to hoodwink the successive Governments or escaped action using patronage of political masters; but many in the list that was prepared during the previous stint of Governor's rule have been manning important administrative positions. The much awaited list of 1032 most corrupt officers in J&K who have been booked in multiple cases of corruption and financial misappropriation, reportedly prepared by the State Vigilance Organization on the directions of Governor had mysteriously got struck during the last stint of Governor's rule; and if sources are to be believed, many of those who appear on the notorious list are on job again, to withhold the list from coming in public domain till the new Government is formed. Sources divulge that on the directions of the Governor during his previous tenure, the SVO had compiled a list of 1032 names, but though the list of most corrupt departments of the State was published, the most important list of names was withheld. Sources also divulge that those on notorious list had plotted to ensure that it did not come in the public domain as many of them were; and still are holding positions of significance in the State administration. "Many of those in the list are not only still manning significant positions, but they have repeatedly been rewarded with lucrative postings, which might embarrass many of their political masters," said a senior officer of the State Government, adding, "These people know that once the popular Government takes charge, it would be easy for them to get the list sabotaged and hence they want to cautiously see off the few days of Governor's rule." The notorious list reportedly includes tainted officers of Revenue, Education, Police, R&B, Jammu and Srinagar Municipal Corporations, Rural Development, PDD and few Corporations. |
