Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 19: Ending the half a month deadlock, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti is all set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of taking oath as the 13th and the first woman Chief Minister of J&K. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be held anytime after January 26.
Sources within the PDP confirmed that the differences that had emerged between the BJP and the PDP after the demise of CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed have been ironed out and that the PDP chief will take oath and succeed her father as the CM. Though interim arrangements have been finalised, the oath ceremony will be held after January 26, sources divulged.
It was learnt further that soon Mehbooba will held a detailed meet with the Prime Minister Modi over the new Government formation in Jammu and Kashmir with emphasis being laid upon the disbursing of funds needed for the State.
Sources said that the Prime Minister's Office has already been informed about the latest development with Mehbooba's meeting with the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Prime Minister Narendra Modi being held at New Delhi within three days.
The bonhomie between the two parties witnessed troubled time in the recent past with some PDP leaders hinting at parting ways from its alliance partner. Mehbooba's silence over such a subtle issue only gave rise to the speculations of Congress making inroads into the State.
It was on January 17 that BJP heaved a sigh of relief with Mehbooba sending feelers of continuing with the coalition.
Early Times had already reported that the conditions set by the PDP before the Union Government include return of power projects and increase in the Central grant. Sources said that the conditions put forth by the PDP chief are being thoroughly deliberated with a breakthrough in this regard expected to be witnessed soon.
"The meeting between the Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister and Mehbooba will take place any time within the period of three days. There are already back channel talks in full swing. It is also expected that the Union Finance Minister and Mehbooba will address the press in New Delhi about the latest developments," sources divulged, adding that the oath ceremony will be held probably in Jammu after January 26.
"There are security related issues involved till the republic day functions across the State are over. There were discussions over the timing of the swearing in. It has been resolved that Mehbooba will assume office by the end of January this year," a party leader said.
Pertinently, a deadlock over the Government formation was witnessed in the State with the coalition partners, BJP and PDP speaking in different voices. The lull which dominated the scenes after Mufti's demise is apparently being broken by the PDP which has 28 MLAs in State Lower House.
