Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 19: The income tax department has issued over 54,000 non-compliance notices in Jammu and Kashmir to the people who have not filed their income tax returns.
"The income tax department has issued over 54,000 non- compliance notices to people who have failed to file their income tax returns for the past several assessment years," state Principal Commissioner of Income Tax Sangeeta Gupta said on the sidelines of a function here today.
"Whosoever falls in the tax bracket but have not filed their tax returns have been served notices. It has nothing to do with their profession or social or religious affiliation," she said.
Gupta, however, refused to disclose the names of any person to whom the notice was served. She said to stop terrorist funding, her department has been keeping track on all type of transactions.
"There is a separate wing in the department which keeps track of all the suspected hawala transactions, so that all type of funding used for anti-national activities are checked," she said.
