Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 19: Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Sanitation wing employees convened a meeting and held threadbare discussions in regard to sanitation of the Jammu city and their long pending demands.
In this meeting all Sanitation supervisors, inspectors, nigrans and drivers were present alongwith their officers and trade union heads who were apprised that meeting was called on the agenda of reforming the entire sanitation system of the city.
During the meeting the members discussed various issues including the transfers of sanitation inspectors/supervisors as there were some persons who have not been transferred for the last three years. "There are about 800 nigrans working in JMC, spokesperson said, and added that this is not an authorized post and further sought to submit their CVs so that their regularization could be sought.
Deliberating upon smooth, timely and every day collection of garbage, it was informed that vehicles have been placed at the level of sanitation inspectors. "
"Every sanitation supervisor has to inform the inspector the moment garbage is collected and he will depute vehicle immediately, speakers said and maintained that the log books of the driver shall be signed by the concerned inspector. "In no case, log books shall be approved by CTO without authentication of signature by the concerned inspector and his supervisory officer, they said.
It has been noticed that all garbage is being dumped by the sanitation staff in the drains. It was strictly told to all supervisors for any such lapse, they will be held personally responsible and fine of Rs 500/- shall be imposed on them for every lapse in their area.
Referring to burning of garbage, members said, "Pollution laws allow levy of fine of Rs 5000/- which needs to be recovered on the spot, rather than issuing challan. If it's not recovered, amount shall be collected from the salary of sanitary inspector."
In reference to Door to door collection, members pin pointed that dustbins shall be placed outside every shop by the shopkeepers at their own expense in two colors for bio degradable and non degradable waste and the garbage from the degradable bins shall be collected every day but non-degradable shall be collected every week. "Immediate fine of Rs.5000/- shall be imposed by the inspector against violators, they said.
