JAMMU, Mar 2: An awareness lecture on importance and maintenance of Oral health and hygiene was organised at Department of Botany, University of Jammu in association with the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and J&K State Science technology & innovation Council. On the occasion, Dr. Gautam Sharma, Dental Surgeon at the University of Jammu and President of Indian Dental Association, was the key speaker. In his presentation 'Oral health for Better Health' delivered to the students, research scholars and faculty members of the Life Sciences in the jam- packed Seminar Hall of the Botany Department, Dr. Gautam very meticulously apprised the audience about the importance of Good oral health and methods of up keeping it. He underscored the fact that oral health of any person reflects on the personality of that individual. Citing several examples from the academic and entertainment world, he said that besides talent it is the magic of their smiles that they find great acceptability among the masses. While discussing about various oral diseases among children, adults and elderly people, the learned surgeon exhorted that we need to focus more on the prevention rather that allowing torturous treatment and cure of such dental/oral ailments. Hazardous effects of tobacco leading to cancer and other life threatening diseases also came under discussion. Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Head of the Botany Department and Co-ordinator of National Science Day 2016 celebrations outlined the objectives of such awareness events. He thanked the key speaker for his wonderful and lucid presentation. He also thanked the participating teachers, research scholars and students and particularly the young children from the Bal Bharti Public School, Channi Rama, Jammu, a unit of Balgran SOS for their active participation and response in the event. Anjali Sharma, Director, Doordarshan Kendra, Jammu, was the Chief Guest while Prof. Geeta Sumbali, Dean, Life Sciences, was the Guest of Honour of today's awareness campaign. |
