Early Times Report

Udhampur, Mar 2: Locals of Ekta Vihar locality Udhampur today alleged that PHE department has failed to provide the water supply in the locality despite repeated reminders that someone has damaged the main water supply pipe to the locality.
Lately the locals got their problem resolved at their own by contributing the expenditure upto Rs 50,000. They alleged that one resident while doing some construction outside his house got the PHE pipe damaged and snapping water supply to houses at the tail end of the main water supply pipe. "Approximately 25 houses are affected due to this damage to water supply pipe and the affected families brought the matter to the notice of concerned authorities but all in vain, they alleged.
The affected families further alleged that they are facing the problems especially in regard to domestic use of water and are dependent on others sources like water tank supply and etc. They added that they have met with XEn PHE Rajesh Gupta and apprised him about the problems being faced by them for the last few days. Giving keen hearing to our grievances, he visited the spot and took the stock of situation. Ironically he showed his helplessness in redressing the issue and even failing to take action against the guilty who damaged the govt. property and essential service.
However after the concerned department shirked its shoulder from its responsibility, the locals pooled (contributed) at their own the expenditure approximately Rs 50,000 and got the water supply restored. The Ekta Vihar residents also stated that by doling this they have sent a message to people that self help is cure instead of depending upon the concerning government department whenever they face a problem.
When contacting XEn PHE Rajesh Gupta briefly said that he had gone to the spot and checked the matter but the required pipe was not readily available with the department. He had asked the locals to wait but when they insisted just to provide the services of plumber to rectify/repair the fault and same was agreed.
