Raj Bhawan aide hints at PDP-BJP Govt formation within fortnight | Meets delegations in Srinagar | | Hyder Ali Early Times Report srinagar, Mar 2: A top Raj Bhawan aide on Wednesday said the Governor’s rule in the State was likely to end within a fortnight, a hint that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) -Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) alliance would be in place in the coming days. Parvez Dewan, Advisor to Governor NN Vohra, who was on visit to Kashmir to meet public delegations at PWD Guest House at Parray Pora here, hinted that the Governor's rule would end within fortnight. "I will keep visiting (Kashmir) to attend public delegations as many times as possible in the Governor’s rule, which is likely to stay for another ten to fifteen days," Dewan said during the public interactions even as scores of people called on the Advisor, who is known for his administrative skills. The hint has brought another twist in the PDP-BJP relationship, which has been on a "flip- flop" since the demise of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7. Many of the officials present at the meet were surprised at the revelation made by the Advisor. "Given the rumors of strained relations, we had been thinking that the PDP and BJP have almost divorced, but this revelation from the Raj Bhawan has changed our perception," said a senior official, adding "Kuch Tao Hai Jis Ki Parda Daari Hai?" This twist came a day after senior PDP leader and former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu returned home empty-handed from New Delhi, where he had been camping for over a week, for backchannel talks with the BJP top-brass over Government formation. Though initially the talks had remained "fruitful", the relationship ran into "rough weather" on February 29, when the Union Government presented the budget-2016 but without any special announcements for Jammu and Kashmir. The PDP, as per sources, had been waiting for announcement of some special package from the Central Government. But as there was no such announcement, Drabu was asked by his party leadership "to pack the bags and get back home in the next flight." The last two months of Governor's rule saw many ups and downs in the relationship between the rightwing BJP and the PDP. While initially PDP President Mehbooba Mufti had declined to take oath as Chief Minister, after the 40th day Chehlum of her father, senior BJP leader Ram Madhav had "secretly flown to Kashmir to resume dialogue with the ally." The talks were believed to have been fruitful. Thereafter, PDP President had hinted at continuance of alliance with the BJP but the Budget announcement came as another roadblock. Meanwhile a top delegation from Tourism players led by Nasir Shah who called on the Governor's Advisor, complained before him that transfer of Farooq Ahmed Shah from the chair of Administrative Secretary was detrimental for the tourism industry, which is struggling for revival of post 2014-floods. Sources said Dewan replied that he and his Raj Bhawan colleague Khurshid Ganie were in favor of Shah but that a group of nine IAS officials wanted his replacement. However the "public darbar" started amid chaos as many failed to meet the Advisor as the "PWD authorities" had announced wrong venue for the meet. Instead of Parray Pora the people were asked to visit Pir Bagh. Sources said Raj Bhawan has ordered an inquiry as to why the people were misguided. "He (Parvez Dewan) has taken a serious note of the blunder on the part of the administration," the sources said. |
