Omar refuses to go with BJP, dad Farooq may 'surprise' him | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 2: National Conference Working President, Omar Abdullah yet again made it clear that his party is not interested in forging an alliance with Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for forming the next government in the state. However, given the fact that Omar is seldom at page with his father Dr. Farooq Abdullah on matters of diverse nature, there are chances that NC may think of joining hands with BJP for forming the government in the state. It remains to be seen that how far NC would prefer to remain out of power in Jammu & Kashmir. In the recent past on at least two occasions, Dr. Abdullah who is also the President of National Conference dropped enough hints that the party might form the next government in the state. He said the party may think of forming the government, if the situation demands so. Almost a month back, the senior Abdullah at Jammu said that NC would think of joining hands with BJP if the latter approaches them in this regard. Later on at Chennai, the President of NC said that the party would display its cards vis-à-vis government formation once the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP fail in this regard. Addressing the party workers at Shopian in South Kashmir today, Omar said that NC would never align with BJP and that he would rather quit politics than compromise with the honour and dignity of the state and its people. He said that PDP is still extremely keen and interested in forming a government with BJP yet again and the continued delay is just an attempt by the party to fake a sense of ideological conviction that they clearly lack. If one believes the address of Omar then there are chances that he might have to quit politics since his father cannot be trusted when it comes to forming the government in the state. Dr. Abdullah might surprise one and all including his son by siding with BJP and form the next government in the state with BJP. Not long ago, Omar admonished his father when he made the statement about the proposed government formation with BJP. It has been observed that on many occasions that the father and son are on separate pages with respect to host of issues. Very recently, the controversy arising out of the JNU episode also brought out this issue very clearly. It has been observed that NC always wants to be in power for the heck of it and as such one should not be surprised if they once again choose to be in government with BJP. There may be resentment among people with regard to PDP, but the picture is not too rosy for NC as well. People are disillusioned with NC and as such the party leaders have to pull up socks in order to improve their performance. |
