AP post aspirants question autonomous status of JKPSC | | | Akshay Azad
Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 2: The decision of Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) to defer selection process of more than 1650 Assistant Professors in government degree colleges, has virtually left thousands of aspirants fuming and in deep anguish, who have questioned the autonomous status of the Commission. It's in place to mention here the JKPSC has reportedly deferred the selection process for AP due to issue of Minimum Standard Procedure (MSP) certificates after intervention of State Government. Sources informed Early Times a few days back, the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department had asked the JKPSC to defer the selection process till the recommendations of Nigvekar Committee-constituted by University Grants Commission to decide MSP issue-would come. The Higher Education department had taken the decision, after it was approached by University of Jammu and Kashmir, which had requested the Commission to defer the selection process as both universities have failed to give MSP certificates to hundreds of Ph.D candidates as per UGC regulations of 2009. Sources further said that though in absence of popular government Governor NN Vohra was heading the state but despite requests by KU and JU authorities, Governor office has reportedly not asked the JKPSC to defer the selection process but it was Higher Education department, which had succeeded to defer the interview process. Lambasting the JKPSC authorities, the aspirants for AP posts rued, "Where is autonomous status of JKPSC, if it is working as per dictates of Higher Education department. For how much time the interviews will be withheld?. If the report of Nigvekar committee will not come for two years, will the interview process linger on for two years". The aspirants further said that across the country and in various states including Haryana, posts of Assistant Professors have been advertised as per UGC regulations of 2009 and these states were not waiting for the repot of Nigvekar Committee. "What is the rationale of JKPSC and Higher Education department to wait for the posts", the aspirants said. The aspirants further said that JKPSC has received numerous applications for AP posts and if the Ph.D degree holders would not be allowed then also there would be no shortage of applicants as per recruitment criteria of JKPSC. The stance taken by JKPSC to defer the decision, only exposed the dependent character of Commission, which claimed to be autonomous, another aspirant said. An official pleading anonymity said that though JKPSC is an autonomous body but it is only a recruitment agency. "The posts are forwarded by Higher Education department and they can ask for withholding of interviews and they have approached us for it," the official said. |
