Kathua, Mar 2: Excise department today foiled an attempt of a car operator to clandestinely carry 11 IMFL bottles (750 ml each) into the state from Lakhanpur here. The bottles, which were hidden in personal belongings, were seized from a car (DL3CDR/3476), official sources said. "The seized bottles have been blended and bottled by Pernod Ricard India Pvt Ltd at NV Distilleries Ltd at Badhali Nariangarh Kalpi in Haryana," the sources added. The liquor was meant for sale in Haryana only and therefore its import into J&K without permission amounted to violation of State Excise Act. The driver along with vehicle and the seized bottles was handed over to Excise & Taxation Officer, Kathua range for further necessary action under the Excise Act, sources said. It is pertinent to mention here that the intensified checking of private cars at the entry point of the state has lead to detection of 229 bottles of IMFL in seven cases in February. An amount of Rs 5,27,975 has been realized on this account against Rs 2,57,550 during the corresponding month of previous year. A total fine of Rs 30,20,077 has been realized during the current financial year, ending February, as against Rs 22,90,498 during the previous year. |
