6/18/2016 11:02:53 PM
Early Times Report

bandipora, June 18:An information seeker was allegedly kept in lockup on the directions of a Revenue department officer when he tried to seek information about a land grab case in Chewa village in Bandipora district.
Details available with Early Times reveal that in connection with a land grab case under Survey No. 700 situated at Chewa, Safapora, District Bandipora, an information seeker namely Gulzar Ahmad Bhat had approached Naib Tehsildar Sumbal with an RTI application, along with the requisite application. The information seeker went to the office of Naib Tehsildar (NT), Sumbal, Sonawari on 16th June, 2016. The Naib Tehsildar, namely Nazir Ahmad wani instead of guiding assisting RTI applicant allegedly humiliated and abused the poor villagers and kept him in a lockup located at nearby Government treasury for 4 hours.
"It was only after the intervention of Additional DC Bandipora and SDM Sumbal that i was released. When I requested for the receipt of my RTI application or return of the original documents, the said Naib Tehsildar thrashed dragged me out through his orderly. The Naib Tehsildar threatened to detain me for four days if I asked for any information under RTI in this case. Tehsildar Sumbal was not available in office in connection with some official assignment , otherwise I was supposed to file application before him only" said Gulzar Ahmad while talking to Early Times.
It is alleged that Naib Tehsildar is in connivance with the land grabbers . The officer according to Gulzar has transferred a piece of land belonging to RTI applicant to another person and for this purpose Gulzar sought information using RTI Act.
"Being a poor farmer with no resources, I fail to understand whether there is anyone to take cognizance..? All I need is the information about the illegal land transfer under the said survey. I am now approaching Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, with the RTI application. I appeal State Information Commission (SIC) , and Divisional Commissioner to come to my rescue and take action against the Naib Tehsildar for torturing me " Gulzar added.
