Early Times Report

Mendhar, June 18: A Gram Rozgar Sewak (GRS) has been attached to Block development office for his alleged involvement in tampering a cheque, official sources said here today.
Gram Rozgar Sewak (GRS) identified as Niyaz Ahmed was given a cheque worth Rs 46000 for the payment of labourers of MGNREGA under Panchayat Pathanateer Salwa by Block Development officer (BDO) Mendhar Tariq Aziz.
"The cheque was supposed to be deposited in theh account of Gram Rozgar Sewak, who subsequently had to make payment to the labourers for MGNREGA works accordingly done in his area," official sources said.
They said by tampering the cheque to the tune of Rs 1,46,000 he went to bank and deposited the cheque. "But his alleged illegal attempt failed to dodge the vigilant bank officials who smelt the foul play and informed the BDO about the payment.
"The BDO concerned told Bank officials that the cheque was issued only for Rs 46000 not for Rs 1,46,000," sources said.
"The GRS had at his own has prefixed the one digit to the amount by tampering the cheque the sources said.
Taking the cognizance of the matter BDO Tariq Aziz ordered seizure of all records of Gram Rozgar Sewak and his attachment with Block Development office hence forth.
Earlier there have been many complaints against the said GRS as he was keeping the payment in his account for couple of months to earn bank interest on the amount while as the payment to labourers was being delayed for long intervals of times the sources said. While talking to Early Times BDO Mendhar Tariq Aziz said that GRS Niyaz who tampered the cheque was already on his scanner and all his record has been seized which will reveal more revelations."A team has been constituted to probe into the records of the GRS and the team will be headed by Inspector Panchayat Subash Sharma, sources said.
"The action of accused GRS may invite lodging of FIR and termination from services for his offence, the sources added.
