ANANTNAG, June 18: Tensions gripped in the Anantnag following posters of militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahdeen, threatening voters and religious preachers/clerics appeared in many areas of town on Saturday morning. These posters warning the voters and religious preachers against electoral process were found pasted on electric poles and walls in Qazi Bagh, Chee and other areas of the town. Posters asking for election boycott had also gone viral on social networking sites including Facebook and WhatsApp.The threatening poster quoting one unknown Hizb Commnader Ibni Qasim reads, "Indian puppets are again approaching you and begging for votes but boycott this whole drama to prove your love and determination towards the movement." The poster also threatens Molvis (clerics), preachers and other religious figures to refrain from creating awareness among masses in this regard."We request to Molvis, Khateebs and Muftis to preach unity and Jihad and those who will fail to do so will be responsible for the consequences for themselves," reads the one such poster pasted on an electric pole "It also remind people that Indian security forces have killed more than fives lakhs, imprisoned, disappeared and orphaned thousands in past years, a local said on anonymity, while adding, "locals have been asked to ensure complete boycott of the so called elections."Repeated attempts to contact police officials for a comment failed as they didn't responded to repeated telephone calls. Here it needs to mention that the assembly constituency seat that fell vacant after the demise of Mufti Mohmmad Sayeed is going to polls on 22nd of this month.Various separatist groups led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohd Yasin Malik have already called for election boycott while as Qazi Yasir-Mirwaiz South Kashmir who also heads Ummat-e-Islami was arrested some days ago during a press conference in which he asked people to boycott the polls.
