KATRA, June 18: The Institute of Oncology at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal, comprising the Department of Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Haemato Oncology and Radiation Oncology is now functional. After getting approval of the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), the most advanced radiation machine Elekta-Versa HD installed in Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal, is now available to provide treatment to cancer patients. With the start of this facility the SSH Kakryal has become the first hospital in the State to provide such services. Various cancer treatments i.e. Surgical, Medical, Radiation Oncology are now available to the people of J&K under one roof. Dr. Vikas Roshan of the Department of Radiation Oncology apprised that Linear Accelerator is equipped to provide advanced radiotherapy services like SRS, SBRT, VMAT, IMRT, IGRT, 3DCRT leading to comprehensive cancer care at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital. The Department shall also be providing Brachytherapy services by Nucletron HDR- 18 Channel equipments. This will lead to delivery of high precision radiation with minimal side effects. Dr. Mir from Medical Oncology - Haemato Oncology stated that SMVDNSH has started 'conventional Chemotherapy' and 'Targeted treatment' for various types of cancers. Targeted-treatment facility so far has been extended to Lymphoma, Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (Blood Cancer), Multiple Myloma and Non Small Cell Lung cancer. |
