POONCH, June 14: Union Minister of State for Kashmir Affairs, Mr Prithivi Raj Chouhan today said that the possibility of linking border district Poonch through Railways was being explored.
Addressing a public meeting, here today, Chouhan said that Railways was the best means for accelerating development, adding that connecting far-flung areas through railways, including border areas could go a long way in setting in the pace of socioeconomic development.

JAMMU, June 14: Due to shrinking strength of militant cadres and elimination of top commanders, an inter-gang rivalry has begun between Pak-sponsored terror outfits -- Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).
The flow of militants from Pakistan to India had also stopped due to enhanced and round-the-clock vigil on the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LOC).

RAJOURI, June, 14: A police constable was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a widow at Gursai in Mendhar, Poonch, today. He was identified as Nissar Ahmad.
Police sources said Nissar allegedly barged into the widow's house when she was all alone and tried to rape her. The woman cried for help and hearing her screams, her neighbours rushed to her rescue, the sources added.
Nissar was captured by the people and handed over to Gursai police station.
When contacted, Gursai police station SHO, Inspector Amin Malik said Nissar had been arrested and booked under section 376/511 of RPC.

Cheema stated that the Chief Justice of India has been pleased to appoint Mr. Maharaj Krishan Hanjura presently Registrar General of High Court J&K in the Supreme Court of India on deputation basis.

JAMMU, June 14: Five Maruti van-borne criminals were today arrested by police with lethal weapons near Akhnoor. Police intercepted a van (3468/JKD) near Akhnoor. Police sources said van's search led cops to the recovery of five sharp-edged weapons.

JAMMU, June 14: On the assurance of minister of state, Shabir Ahmad that he would arrange their meeting with the chief minister soon, the agitated students of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University suspended their strike this evening.
The meeting was held at the Rajouri dak bungalow in the presence of deputy commissioner and SSP. Earlier, the minister asked the students to hold a dialogue with the university authorities, but they categorically refused.

JAMMU, June 14: Seven persons, including two minor girls, were today killed and 38 others wounded in four road mishaps on the Kathua-Patnitop stretch of the national highway.
A video coach (JK02G/6807) skidded off the road near Patnitop and landed into a gorge at about 2.45 pm, resulting in the death of four persons and injuries to 31 others.
