NEW DELHI, July 12: Congress, on Monday, disapproved the PDP's decision to stay away from an all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, saying the mainstream parties should rise above politics, help restore peace in the state and isolate the separatists.

SRINAGAR, July 12: Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department and M/s GVK Development Projects Limited have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) recently for procurement of power on long term basis from 690 MW Ratle Hydro Electric Project (HEP).
The agreement was signed by the Principal Secretary, Power Development Department, B.R. Sharma and Chief Financial Officer of M/S GVK Development Projects Limited, Isaac George.

HYDERABAD, July 12: Union Minister of State for Defence, MM Pallam Raju today said that the Army deployed in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of recent violence will continue to remain as there long as the state government feels its presence is necessary. "What is happening in Srinagar and other places is very unusual. Army comes in only when it is beyond the handling of the state government. SRINAGAR, July 12: Militants today made an abortive attempt to target a security picket with a grenade in Sopore town of North Kashmir. Unidentified militants hurled a grenade towards the CRPF picket at the entrance of the State Bank of India building in the main town, 55 kms from here in Baramulla district, this morning, official sources said. They said the grenade failed to explode and was later defused by a bomb disposal squad.
