Government on the mat, pressure on
8/2/2010 12:25:52 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 1: The J&K Government is in the dock. No, it is on the mat. It has miserably failed to contain the separatists, extremists, hooligans and stone-pelting force. None of its actions has succeeded in bringing things under control or putting things back on the track. There appears none in Kashmir who is prepared to listen to the Chief Minister or any of his ministerial colleagues. Even the employees are not cooperating. The threat administered by the Chief Minister that his government would take strong action in case the employees fail to resume their duties has failed to produce the desired results. They continue to remain belligerent. There is discontent and disa...

Cabinet reviews Kashmir situation
8/2/2010 12:25:38 AM
ABID SHAH EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, Aug 1: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has taken here the stock of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of continuing violence. At the end of the meeting held here this evening under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Government indicated that it is keeping a close tab on the developments in the State through the reports being received from Governor and Chief Minister from Srinagar. This is significant since it is for the first time since the last CCS held on Kashmir a few weeks ago the report from Governor has figured in the discussions. The Government also indicated here that it was willing to offer amnesty...

Why ban Hurriyat's chalo programmes?
Let separatists prove their mettle
8/2/2010 12:25:13 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 1: The government is scared of Hurriyat's Chalo programme notwithstanding its claims to the contrary. Whenever the separatist conglomerate has urged the people to reach a particular place, the government has always responded by clamping curfew. What would happen if Hurriyat's Chalo programme is allowed? Thousands of people would assemble at a particular place to chant anti-India and Azadi slogans. It may be followed by a march to the United Nations Military Observers Group (UNMOGIP) at Sonawar. A memorandum would be submitted accusing New Delhi of abusing human rights violations. The memorandum may also seek resolution of Kashmir dispute in accordance with t...

Congress equally responsible
8/2/2010 12:24:25 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 1: The Congress, reports say, has put the Omar Abdullah led Government on notice after it has come to the conclusion that the National Conference led Government has not been able to handle the current Kashmir situation. The congress is upset over the handling of the situation which had encouraged separatists in calling the shots and receiving full support from the people for their calls for shutdown and street protest rallies. The Congress, without mincing words, seem to be unhappy with the Chief Minister's performance which has given rise to a situation in which the administration "is invisible." Therefore, Omar Abdullah has been put on notice and advised t...

"Political debauchery has brought
8/2/2010 12:24:08 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 1: The return of demon of death and destruction in Valley for the second time after a short lull has come along with an appendix attached to its recurrence that has different versions from different segment of the people, but with only one view about valley having slipped out of democratic control and reached the point of no return. The political inferences pouring in suggest that time is totally ripe for the Government of India to act in a righteous perspective to save the valley and state from the virtual breakdown leaving aside its political debaucheries for a while. "Government of India should understand the gravity of the situation having turned host...

Now it's the Sikhs' turn, separatists'
8/2/2010 12:23:43 AM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 1: On July 28, the fanatics attacked Mithun Singh, a resident of Divar in Tral town, in the Malanpora area of Pulwama district. He was harassed, insulted and abused. Not only this, they "chopped" his hair (one of the religious symbols of Sikhs) and outraged the sensitivities of the entire Sikh community. The bigots were not content with all this. They asked him to raise anti-India and pro-independence slogans and join protest. The poor, hapless, unarmed and unprotected Mithun Singh obeyed the fanatics' dictates to escape their wrath and cruelties and save his life. Even this gesture on the part of Mithun Singh did not satisfy the fanatics. They orde...
