Swimming pool at M A Stadium contains contaminated water, Sports Council lacks power back up | | | Shiv Dev Thakur
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 9: Recently opened swimming pool at M A Stadium is unfit for the classes to go on as it contains contaminated water. Sources told Early Times that the recently renovated pool costing a huge amount to the exchequer is once again unfit for any of the sports activity. Sources said that although all equipment is there, the water in the pool is contaminated with the presence of algae and gives a look of a pond somewhere in a village. Sources said the filtration plant is unavailable to filter the water as the Sports Council Jammu lacks power back up as there is acute shortage of generators in the M A Stadium, Jammu. A parent of a budding swimmer said that due to the presence of the contaminated water, it is difficult for the parents like him to allow their wards to swim in the pool. "The Sports Council can afford expenditures for any competition but cannot afford spending money on purchasing a generator," she added. Sports officer Rajan Sharma said that continued rainfall leads to the contamination of the water. He said that because of inadequate power supply by the PDD the filtration plants failed to operate fully. "I closed the pool for four days last week; it's now open for classes," he added. An official of Chief Engineer's Office, Canal Road admitted shortage of power supply and said that due to overload in summers, irregular cuts are necessary to handle the overloads. |
