Desperate Omar forgets failures, U-turns | Posting comments on twitter, raking controversies were hallmarks of his regime | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 9: The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah trained his guns towards his bête-noire the incumbent Chief Minister of JK Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and claimed that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government has failed to deliver during its first 100-days in the office. When Omar Abdullah was in power he never bothered to present his report card. He remained busy with posting his activities on the Twitter and kept on issuing statements raking up controversies. Omar while addressing a news conference here on Monday came up with a 17-page booklet highlighting the "failures" of the PDP led government. Irony is that Omar during his tenure never came up with any booklet to showcase his achievements. In fact he had no achievements which he could showcase. Omar's six year tenure witnessed zero development and one of the worst civil uprisings in the history of Kashmir. In 2010 Kashmir remained shut for 6 months and more than 120 youth were killed to normalize the situation. Omar had to face embarrassment after he raised the bogey of the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). He had to eat a humble pie after the Congress led UPA turned down his proposal to revoke AFSPA from a few areas of the state. Omar had to face humiliation when then Army Chief General V K Singh refused to give him audience in New Delhi. Someone needs to remind Omar that 100-days are no benchmark to gauge the performance of the any government. When Omar took over the reins in 2009, his government slept over almost all the issues for nearly one year and it took him more than a year to realize that Chief Minister's job is not only to fly in the state chopper and he has to take care of other issues also. Omar during his tenure failed to complete any of the major developmental projects which were taken up by his government. When his tenure was coming to an end he inaugurated incomplete projects just to have his name inscribed on the memorials. Omar's assertion that he used to go with a begging bowl to Delhi indicates that he was a "Weak Chief Minister" who couldn't manage the state with the resources that were available. Even the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi went on record to say that Omar led regime failed to implement the centrally sponsored people friendly schemes in Jammu and Kashmir. Crores of rupees sanctioned by the central government for various schemes got lapsed due to the lackadaisical attitude of the Omar led government. Someone needs to remind Omar about the U-turns which he took when he was the Chief Minister his promise to curb corruption proved to be a "big joke" as corruption thrived during his regime and JK figured in the list of top five corrupt states in India. When neonates died at GB Pant hospital in Srinagar, Omar announced that one more children hospital would be set up in the summer capital but he failed to fulfill his promise. There were many other U-turns which Omar made from 2009 to 2014. He talking about U-turns is like pot calling kettle black. |
