Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 10: People of the Valley have questioned credibility of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) department for having failed in its commitment to distribute the ration as per 2011 Census. People also suffer for not having received the new ration cards.
With half of the year almost over, the department has miserably failed to fulfill its promises of distributing the ration as per the 2011 Census. People say that in absence of ration cards, which most of the people lost during the flood last year, have contributed a lot in the unfair means as far as the distribution of the ration is concerned.
"The holy month of the Ramadan is approaching near and the administration has decided to give additional two kilogram s of sugar to the consumers. But the problem is that most of the people like me will not be entitled to it since they have lost the ration cards in the flood last year," said Hafizullah from Batamaloo.
Hafizullah said that people like him faced a lot of difficulties while getting the free ration which was given for the six months as a relief to the flood victims. Our miseries have not ended as yet because the department hasn't been able to provide the new ration cards.
People ask as to when the department come to terms and improve its work culture. Also, as according to these people, even the new coalition, which is in power for more than 100 days now, also seems to be paying no attention to this burning issue.
"The issuance of the new ration cards is lingering for quite some time now, the preparation of which has been politicized.
We have submitted the forms for obtaining the new ration cards much before, but as of now there seems to be no relief in offing for the consumers," said Mohammad Ramzan from Chattabal.
Ramzan said that though they completed all the formalities required for obtaining the ration card, nothing concrete has happened on the ground. Minister concerned, Choudhary Zulfiqar had assured the consumers that they will get the ration as per the 2011 Census from June 1, but so for his claim has proved to be a damp squib, said Ramzan.
People allege that the political influence has been at its peak in making the new ration cards.
These people said that at some places, some influential have managed to enlist the name of their servants to get the benefits.
