Bijay Charak Early Times Report
Jammu, June 9: In absence of proper bus stops at various areas of Jammu city, the passengers are forced to wait for the vehicles on the roads leading to traffic chaos. The condition of existing bus stops in the city is deplorable. The stands are either occupied by stray animals or have become garbage dumps. Raj Kumar, a social activist said that the Jammu city with a population of eight lakhs needs 100 bus stops, but astoundingly at present there is not a single properly maintained stop. The bus stop at Panama Chowk, Gole Market Gandhi Nagar, Near General Bus Stand, Trikuta Nagar crossing, etc. are in bad condition and need urgent repairs. "Municipal Corporation may have made an attempt to create swanky facilities for passengers at designated bus stops here in the City of Temples but at various places the waiting areas have been turned in to dumping ground or the infrastructure has been destroyed", Kumar said, adding that several places animals can be seen occupying the spaces instead of passengers. In absence of cleanliness and other facilities the passengers, especially elderly citizens, women and children face hardships while waiting for the buses. Interestingly, authorities are well aware of the problem but have done nothing to address it. Stray dogs and other animals use the corner to relieve themselves under the shaded area leaving little scope for the passengers to use the utility. The passengers are equally to be blamed for not maintaining the decorum at the bus stops. The newly constructed bus stops have fixed chairs facilities but these stops need urgent to repair. However, repeated calls by this jurno to JMC Commissioner Soujanya Sharma didn't respond the phone calls. |
