Major snow clearance operation underway on Amarnath tracks | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 10: A major snow clearance operation and repair work on both traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal routes to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas is going on to ensure all arrangements are in place before the commencement of 59-day-long yatra from July 2. Meanwhile, senior officers of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB), are scheduled to visit Sheshnag and Panjterni halting stations on traditional route on July 15 to chair review meeting next day. Recently Jammu and Kashmir N N Vohra, who is chairman of the SASB, alongwith Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SASB P K Tripathi had an aerial survey of both the tracks which were under more than ten feet of snow at several places. However, the concerned authorities, including Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) and Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA), have already started snow clearance operation on both the tracks. Besides repair work of the tracks was also going on to ensure the tracks were ready before the commencement of the yatra to the holy cave, where the self made Ice-Shivlingam has fully been formed. Official sources said fresh snowfall at some places and bad weather was affecting the snow clearance operation. The SASB in consultation with the authorities has already finalised all arrangements, including medical, langar, power, water and security arrangements for the smooth and peaceful yatra. Besides health department, different security agencies, including Army, Border Security Force (BSF) , Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) have decided to set up medical camps at different locations for the pilgrims. An official spokesperson said here today that Mr Vohra had reviewed the arrangements being made for the Yatra. The review meeting was fixed to take place after the Additional CEO and GM (Works) returned from their first visit to the holy cave. Governor reviewed the position regarding all issues related to the Baltal Holy Cave axis, they said adding that work was going on to repair the Baltal track. Additional CEO and GM (Works) informed the Governor about the ongoing work on the tracks which was being done by the various Government agencies. The State Public Works Department (PWD) has commenced work on upgradation of Rangamorh Baltal Domel and Neelgrath Baltal roads and repairs of the track from Domel onwards. The PDA has taken up the snow clearance work on the track from Holy Cave to Panjtarni. He also said steps were being taken by the Power Development and PHE Departments for restoring electricity and water supply at the Baltal Base Camp. He also informed that toilets and baths were being installed both inside and outside the Baltal Base Camp. The Additional CEO apprised the Chairman that Army, CRPF and the State Police have started arriving at the Baltal Camp. Mr Vohra has directed Additional CEO and GM (Works) to undertake visits to Sheshnag and Panjtarni Yatra Camps by June 15, 2015 and he shall hold the next review meeting on June 16 2015. |
