Early Times Report JAMMU, June 9: In the state police, senior officers enjoy absolute powers to reprimand, humiliate and punish their juniors without calling their explanation or knowing about their personal problems. In one such incident, Udhampur police station SHO Mahesh Sharma was transferred and attached to the district police lines (DPL). His fault: He failed to respond to his SSP's call because he had forgotten his cell phone at home while leaving for hospital in a hurry for some personal work. A few days back, there was a traffic jam on the national highway at Udhampur. Someone called up SSP, Udhampur and brought the matter to his notice. He, in turn, called up SHO Mahesh. Since he had forgotten his cell phone at home and was himself in the hospital, the call remained unanswered, according to police sources. Sources said when he came back home, he immediately called up the SSP who then ordered him to report to DPL, Udhampur. In his place, another SHO, was posted at Udhampur police station. He had got himself transferred to Udhampur for his posting in a "better" thana, the sources alleged. Sources said Mahesh was given no chance to explain his position. "The new SHO has got the choice posting," the sources added. |
