Early Times Report
Jammu, June 10: Three years on, the Maharaja Hari Singh Park on the banks of Tawi in the heart of the city of temples remains a play ground. The former union health minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad had promised a waker's park at the site three years ago. He even named the proposed park after the last Dogra ruler, Maharaja Hari Singh. Ironically the Jammu Development Authority, according to sources invited tenders for the proposed park but later it was learnt that a portion of the land had been leased out to a party for construction of a hotel. The locals have taken serious exception to the failure of the former state government and the incumbent government of failure to start work on the project. The concerned ministry has witnessed a number of changes since April 1 , 2012 when the announcement for the park was made. However, the incumbent deputy Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh is currently heading the department. The locals have accused him of inaction. "The BJP is abusing the mandate given by the people in last year's assembly elections," said a local. He sought immediate measures for setting up of the park. Interestingly two grandsons of the former monarch represent the coalition partners in the assembly. The locals have sought an pro-active approach vis-a-vis the project from them. |
