Early Times Report

Jammu, June 10: Display of wrong information in the official websites has become a sort of norm with government departments in J&K with authorities at the helm presenting it more as a showcasing platform albeit having irrelevant or wrong information and seldom caring to post up to date details about the working of the department. While many such cases have been reported in the past, the latest to fall in that category is all important PHE and Irrigation Department of the J&K government.
While the website is updated rather fully loaded with what they choose to term as achievements of the department , it utterly falters in showing an IAS officer named Shyam Vinod Meena as Additional Secretary of the Department who has been transferred for over two months now. The said officer was also first Appellate Authority or PIO with the Department during his posting as Additional Secretary. Interesting part of the whole scene remains that the incumbent Secretary in the PHE department Parvaiz Malik was earlier Secretary of IT department, an assignment where officers are expected to be more updated and knowledgeable than their counterparts in other departments. The said officer Meena has since been transferred and is on Central deputation at present.
According to sources Malik served for a brief spell and did not complete his whole tenure with the IT department as the incumbent Minister Choudhary Sukhnandan is learnt to be having good equation and compatibility with him which is why he came to PHE department. Malik has however not cared to have a look of the website of important department he is at the helm of affairs now nor check the information given on it. Most of the space is choked with achievements and there is little mention , not to speak of detailed information with regard to devastating floods that wreaked havoc last year.
There is also no information about extent of damage nor about the funds as to what amount stands sanctioned and how much has been distributed to flood affected.
However, what remains a big error is not updating information with respect to PIO at the helm. This goes in contravention of what Chief Information Commission has directed the departments to show as sought under Art 4, sources said adding that RTI Act strictly says that in order to facilitate the working of RTI activists and make things transparent, all the departments at least need to provide correct information besides showing what response PIO has provided to RTI queries.
