DB asks Chairman SSRB to pay Rs 30,000 to petitioner over contempt of court | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 10: Yet in another case taking serious note over callous approach of Service Selection Board over court directions, a Division Bench (DB) of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur directed Chairman SSRB to pay compensation of Rs 30,000 to petitioner. After hearing Adv Anil Sethi for the petitioner whereas Adv Liaqat Ali appearing for the SSRB, Division Bench observed that this contempt petition is filed by Jagdeep Kour for non-compliance of the directions dated 17/05/2012 issued in LPA wherein this Court while dismissing the appeal filed by the Services Selection Board directed the Board to implement the judgment of the Writ Court within a period of eight weeks wherein the State-respondents were directed to consider the case of the petitioners in the writ petition for appointment as Physical Education Teacher (PeT)). Later a contempt petition LPA No.5/2013 was filed for non-compliance of the directions of this Court and the respondents extended the benefit of the judgment only to those who have preferred the contempt petition and the petitioner herein has been left out. Division Bench further observed that when the matter was listed on 05/05/2015 counsel appearing for the Board extended assurance that the Court order will be complied with within four weeks and on the said assurance the matter was deferred and it was directed that in default, Chairman SSRB will appear in person. Division Bench further observed that today neither compliance of the direction is reported nor Chairman SSRB is present in the Court and the counsel appearing for the Board seeks further time to comply with the directions of this Court. After considering the submissions of both the sides, Division Bench granted two weeks time from today to report compliance and for the delay in implementing the order of the Court for the last over three years directed Chairman SSRB to pay compensation of Rs.30,000/- @ Rs.10,000/- for each year.
