64% of lathi charge in India takes place in JK alone | All Jammu Kashmir lathi charge state! | | Peerzada Ummer

Srinagar, Dec 13: In one year, 324 incidents of lathi charge were reported across India, and out of them, 207 took place in J&K alone. Official data reveals that in these 207 incidents as many as 411 policemen and 24 civilians were injured. As J&K is reeling under abnormal situation, the state has topped the list of incidents related to lathi charge. In all 29 states of India, after J&K it is Uttar Pradesh wherein most cases of lathi charge were reported in one year. In UP, there were as many as 62 cases reported in which 197 civilians and 90 police personnel were injured. Gujarat had mere two cases of lathi charge reported while as Bihar also had two such cases witnessed. Assam and Haryana similarly had four cases each reported. The figures coming to fore have once again revealed that the security men under take a tough job in the state of Jammu and Kashmir to deal with the situation. Though the present scenario of Jammu and Kashmir has improved too much from that of 1990s so far as security point of view is concerned the government claims that it has to work to build greater public confidence in its sustainability. It is being maintained further that the entire public of the state of Jammu and Kashmir are now able to understand the value of peace and normalcy in the state. In the security matter the present coalition government will see the security situation in the state systematically with a view to examine the need and desirability of all the special laws being applied to the state in view of the situation which is improving. 'Modernization of Police Forces' scheme is also being seen as a top priority of the JK dispensation as it has constituted a state level empowered committee headed by the Chief Secretary with Administrative Secretary Planning and Development and Monitoring department, Administrative Secretary Home department. Director General of Police, J&K and Administrative Secretary Finance department as its members for its proper monitoring. The objective of the scheme is to gradually reduce the dependence of the state governments on the army and the Central police forces to control internal security and law and order situations by equipping the state police forces adequately and strengthening their training infrastructure. |
