'Controversy' over construction of multi-storey flats at Narwal Bala | Rather's son puts record straight | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 13: Seeking to put the record straight to tell 'inaccurately' reported facts, NC leader and ex-finance minister A R Rather's son Hilal Rather today said he had committed no violation, either of the land use Act or the Jammu City Master Plan, while raising multi-storey flats at Narwal Bala on the city outskirts. "Neither the land deal, nor the flats are awry. The propaganda against me has actually been actuated by an RTI activist, who had been demanding Rs 30 lakh from me to keep his mouth shut. When I told him that I won't pay him any money as I have done nothing wrong and have strictly followed all the requisite rules and regulations, he said it was very easy for him to raise a finger at me for being ex-finance minister's son," he told scribes here. Rather chuckled and remembered how the RTI activist had been calling and blackmailing him on his cellphone for spoiling his and his father's name by launching a propaganda against them. He also played in the press conference a recorded conversation with the RTI activist who had also allegedly tried to implicate him in a case of kidnapping while he was abroad. "The same fellow is suspected to be behind us," he said. "We recognize that we cannot control everything that may be said about us, but when inaccuracies are called to our attention, we have an obligation to set the record straight so that investors do not get panicky and confused," he said. "My only concern is to put the record straight and make the true facts known about our ambitious project. I have done nothing wrong and am ready to face any inquiry by the vigilance organistion or crime branch of police," Hilal said. "Before starting construction of flats, we have taken NOCs from JDA and other concerned departments. After JDA told us that the particular place at Narwal Bala doesn't fall under its jurisdiction, we approached JMC. After we completed the requisite formalities, including NOCs, JMC issued us the permission to raise flats. The permission of 12 floors was given to us by a predecessor of ex-JMC commissioner Kiran Wattal and not by the latter. We had approached him for permission for 13th floor as permissible under law," he said. Hilal denied the allegations that he at any level had used the influence of his father to get permission for constructing flats at Narwal Bala. "I purchased the land in 2012 and started construction on it in January 2013. The nature of a part of the land is khud," he said and sought to clarify that this piece of land was purchased by him two years before the court ban on the use of khud land for construction purposes. |
