KUPWARA, Dec 13: In an embarrassing way, the controversial MLA from Langate constituency, Engineer Sheikh Abdul Rashid today locked down Deputy Commissioner's office Kupwara and left people waiting outside the DC office gate for whole day.
According to sources that, "despite heavy barriers and deployment of police and paramilitary forces that were present there to maintain law and order, MLA Langate locked down the main gate of DC office Kupwara.
In a high drama, Engineer Rashid has left hundreds of people waiting outside the main gate that had come down from the border areas to get their work done from various officials of DC office Kupwara, sources told early times.
Sources said that, "despite being a law maker, Engineer Rashid took law into his own hands and locked down the office of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, despite the fact that hundreds of people were waiting there to get their work done.
Some people had come to meet ADC Kupwara who has also been given additional charges of programme officer ICDS Kupwara, but unfortunately they couldn't meet him today as the main gate was locked down by MLA Langate, sources informed.
Sources said that, "we had come here to clarify the electricity bills as we were promised uninterrupted power supply in metered areas, not only this but we don't have also proper water supply in our area.
He (Engineer Rashid) has wasted our whole day, and we were left with no option except to leave the office without meeting any clerical staff, said sources.
Sources said that, "It is not only a matter of DC's presence in the office sometimes we have to meet with the other staff members for other works.
Sources also said that, "MLA Langate locked down the main gate of DC office Kupwara as a mark of protest against failure of the government to fill up the post of Deputy Commissioner which is lying vacant since last month.
Sources said that, Engineer Rashid warned government to fill up the post within four days or be ready to face mass agitation.
It is pertinent to mention here that, the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Kumar Rajeev Ranjan (IAS) was transferred and posted as Additional Secretary to the Government, Tribal Affairs Department vide government order no: 2160-GAD of 2016 dated 18/11/2016.
While as Bashir Ahmad Dar (KAS) Special Secretary in the Chief Minister's Secretariat was transferred and posted as Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara.
