Early Times Report

Jammu/Srinagar, Dec 13 : Jammu city on Tuesday recorded the coldest night of the season so far as the minimum temperature was 7.4 degrees Celsius. Leh town in Ladakh region, which recorded minus 10.6 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature, was the coldest town in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. "The temperature dropped to 7.4 degrees Celsius during the night in Jammu city, which is 1.6 degrees Celsius below the season's average. This is the lowest minimum temperature recorded in the city so far this season," a Met official said . The official said dry weather was likely to continue in the state during the next 48 hours and because of the accompanying clear night sky the minimum temperatures would fall further during this period. "The minimum temperature was minus 0.5 degrees Celsius in Srinagar city of Kashmir Valley while in Pahalgam it was minus 4.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. Gulmarg recorded minus 5.2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature. "Katra town in Jammu region recorded the minimum temperature of 9.5 degrees Celsius. It was 4.2 degrees Celsius in Batote, 2.5 degrees Celsius in Bannihal and 1.1 degrees Celsius in Bhaderwah," the official said. Meanwhile, Normal life today remained paralysed as the winter capital here witnessed the season's first dense fog. A blanket of fog early this morning gripped the winter capital of the state, thus throwing life out of gear. Sun was out for some time in fog-hit Jammu, while the weather remained partially cloudy. Vehicles moved at a snail's pace. Train and air services also remained affected due to fog. "Trains are running 5-6 hours late in their arrivals and departure, due to dense fog in North India," an official here said.
He said there is a heavy rush of passengers at Jammu Tawi Railway Station, due to delay in the timing of rails. Meanwhile, flights at Jammu Airport were also late in departure and arrival by few hours. The terminals at the airport remained occupied with the passengers. "Flights were only running late from their routine timings, but no flight has been cancelled," he added.
