Srinagar, Dec 24: Around 309 corruption cases are being probed by the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) and the State Vigilance Commission (SVC). The highest number of complaints have been filed against the Revenue department.
The SVC has also received 875 complaints since January 2015, of which 552 were heard and disposed off while the remaining 305 complaints are under adjudication.
Many of the accused bureaucrats include IAS, IPS, KAS and other officers holding plum postings in various departments despite facing probe in corruption cases.
Sources in the government said that the corruption was a major challenge in the state with various anti-graft agencies receiving complaints on routine bases. "Corruption is a major challenge for the government and its adverse effects on the society cannot be underestimated. In solving pending cases collection of relevant records required in investigation takes a lot of time," one of the senior officials of the government said.
