Beef row tears apart the State's social fabric | Time for intervention | | Beef row
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 23: Jammu and Kashmir has always been a troubled State. Obviously, it needed a responsible Government. However, the past developments have pointed out that no Government in the State ever discharged its obligations towards the people. They did not attempt to promote social amity and religious harmony.
The present PDP-BJP dispensation too has utterly failed to come up to the expectations of the people of the State. Contrarily, it has chosen to follow the path that has already caused schism in the society. It was required to handle very carefully the raging controversy over the beef issue, but, it seems, it has decided to strengthen the forces which created the controversy over the otherwise settled issue. Its behaviour has been similar to the out of power and rabble-rousing parties like the National Conference and the Congress.
The PDP has actually walked into the trap of its arch rivals thus creating difficulties for its own Government. The PDP-BJP coalition has mishandled the sensitive issue to the extent that the parties under oath and...

BJP seethes with anger, Central leaders say coalition will complete full term | Soft warning to PDP: BJP won't acknowledge 'disengagement' decision | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 23: As the BJP camp sulks and seethes with anger over recent developments that unfolded this time with disengagement of Additional Advocate General and Deputy Advocate General, the Central leadership of the party arrived here to raise the spirits of the Ministers and Legislators with soothing assurances amid a marathon session of meetings held today. The assuaging session concluded with a soft warning that BJP doesn't acknowledge the decision on sacking of two law officers as it has been taken unilaterally by PDP, albeit with an underlined and loud message: PDP -BJP coalition would complete its full term in the State.
Sources said amid high confusion and an...

Peerzada Ummer
Early Times Report
srinagar, Sept 23: The high court ruling seems to have put the ruling PDP in a tight spot with its leadership speaking over the issue in different tones. The statements coming out from party's spokesman, general secretary and parliament member from Srinagar have added chaos to the already perturbed situation.
What is more concerning for the party is that it is yet to come out with the clear stand over the high court order wherein ban has been imposed over the sale of beef in Jammu and Kashmir.
The government spokesman Naeem Akhtar, otherwise known for his detailed statements has left the party in lurch as he is out of the state for performing Hajj.

| | Be it beef ban or pilgrim tax, BJP will continue `flirtation' with PDP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 23: BJP is not in a mood to have any controversy with PDP on any issue even though it may harm the party's political interests in the State.
Despite many controversies marring the coalition right from the day first it took over the reins of government BJP wants to play safe and does not want to give any credence to controversies which took place in the last over seven months of coalition.
To defuse the situation, BJP senior leaders from Delhi including Party national general secretary Ram Madhav who is in charge of J&K and Party national vice president, Avinash Rai Khanna arrived here on a day's tour to discuss the prevailing political situation with State...
| | RSS, BJP sacrifice Sharma, Seth to appease Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 23: A few days ago, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra made a very significant statement while participating in a TV debate. He said, "Those who can kill their ideology can kill anyone". It was not an off-the-cuff remark. What he said was based on his experience as BJP man. In fact, what he said was a message to others in the party or even in the RSS, who hold official or semi-official positions, not to cross the line by questioning their organizations or by defending what needed to be defended.
And what happened in Jammu & Kashmir on Tuesday vindicated Sambit Patra. The case in point is the manner in which Additional Advocate General (AAG) Vishal Sharm...

Jammu, Sept 23: As the beef ban issue snowballs into a major controversy, the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party has started looking for some face saving to cover up its failures ever since coming to power in Jammu and Kashmir in alliance with PDP.

| | Rajnath, Ram Madhav commend Mufti Govt; PDP law-makers condemn Modi, BJP | BJP defensive, PDP offensive | | ET Report
Jammu, Sept 23: The PDP-BJP coalition is a strange type of coalition. They are in the government, but, at the same time, certain elements in both the parties take on each other. The only difference is that those in the PDP who take on the BJP are men of consequence and those in the BJP who try to take on the PDP are practically men of no consequence, as they are not taken seriously even by their own colleagues in the party. Another difference is that while BJP top ranking leaders and ministers commend the BJP-PDP coalition and working of the coalition government led by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the PDP top leadership fields some junior party leaders to tear into the BJP and the BJP-...

Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 23: Syed Ali Shah Geelani's Wednesday statement that people (in this case Muslims) should not perform any act that could hurt the religious sentiments of other communities (in this case Hindus) of Jammu and Kashmir is a well-thought out ploy to defuse the potentially dangerous situation in the state where both the communities are face to face with each other. "Allah has declared meat of bovine animals' halal for us. Neither can anyone declare it a forbidden entity nor can (one) stop us from consuming it. Srinagar: Sept 23: The government is trying to hide its failures by announcing flood alerts and not focusing on the much needed dredging of river Jhelum. The recent two-day rain spell once again created a flood like situation in Kashmir with the gauge at Sangam river crossing the danger mark of 21 forcing the Flood Control department to declare flood alert in South and Central Kashmir.
It shows incompetency, failure and lack of execution of the government's policies. Following two days of rains, the authorities wasted no time in issuing a flood alert which apparently according to government was not to create any panic among the general masses.
