Time has come for Congress to intervene | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 6: Things in Jammu are again heading towards a full-scale confrontation between the people, especially the 4 million Hindus, and the "unaccommodating and inflexible" Governor NN Vohra and the "equally rigid and arrogant" State Government. Things have deteriorated to the extent that almost all the Jammu-based social, religious and political groupings, barring Congress, National Conference and People's Democratic Party, have made up their mind to create in Jammu the 2008-like situation that led to the fall of the Congress-led government. Had the BJP-RSS combine not given up their third demand, Governor NN Vohra too would have been recalled by the "unnerved and frightened" Central Government. The other two demands were dismissal of the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led government and transfer of the piece of land at Baltal to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.
That things have again changed dramatically in Jammu province could be seen from what could be termed as a very impressive protest rally that was organized on Saturday by at least two MLAs belonging to the saffro...

PM arriving Kashmir today | Hopes versus apprehensions on internal dialogue
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 6: Even as not much significance is being attached to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to Kashmir in terms of internal dialogue process with the separatists, it is hopes versus apprehensions and fears once again expressed from different quarters across the state ahead of his visit as usual.
Both Centre as well as state government has been non committal about any formal offer to separatists for resumption of dialogue process with the separatist leaders though there are ample indications that suggest government is inclined to break the ice once again in the changed environment vis-à-vis relations with Pakistan as also drastic change in ground situat...

How suddenly, out of blues, at the fag end of country's supremo's visit to the valley, Mehbooba Mufti arose out of her self to dart a letter to Chief Minister asking the latter for convening of a special, session of LA citing ...
| | ‘Azad infused new life in freedom movement' | Did he strengthen Congress? | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 6: The Congress Chief, Sonia Gandhi sent Ghulam Nabi Azad to Jammu Kashmir seven years ago to revive Congress. Under his dynamic leadership, the Congress performed well in the 2002 assembly elections. National Conference was shown the exit and the state came under coalition rule. Azad became a hero.
Azad, was known and liked for his `clean image' across the state. But, Azad failed to take action against his ministers who were involved in the infamous sex scandal. The sordid tale did not end here. The tainted Congress members were once again allowed to contest elections on Congress ticket. The outcome of elections notwithstanding, people by and large got the...

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 6: What does the open letter says in the end? It says, "Manmohan Ji you are gentleman, we normally expect you not to protect criminals in the name of patriotism. A Major or Subedar might be handed over to police; it is not enough to stem the rot. Tens of thousands have been killed here and many thousands are missing, people are anguished and seek justice. Appointment of an Independent Commission to inquire about what and where went wrong, is need of the hour. While a serious effort is made to unravel truth, you as person Dr. Manmohan Singh can make fresh beginning with people of Kashmir. It is to say sorry for what Kashmir has had to undergo all thes...
| | Has Kashmir really taken a favourable turn? | 168 killings in 5 months belie the claim | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 6: Contrary to the reports of intelligence sleuths that Kashmir had taken a favourable turn, the Valley continues to be hot. If the number of persons killed during the past five months is any indicator, then the Prime Minister has every reason to feel worried. The killings show an alarming increase (25%) when compared to first five months of the year bygone. The slain persons include 5 army officers and 32 police and CRPF personnel. If the number of SPOs and police informers is added to the list, the message conveyed is horrible. Militants have set their system in order!
If 29 civilians including students, women and children get killed in times of zero ...
