Leh cloudburst: Army fights flood and mud to rescue trapped people | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
NEW DELHI, Aug 6: Armed Forces are set on massive rescue and relief operations for the victims of the last midnight's devastating cloudburst in Choglumsar area of Leh in Ladakh in which over 100 people lost their lives.
After initial reports from the high altitude Northern tip of the country where the tragedy took place, the Ministry of Defence issued a statement here today, indicating extensive damage due to flash floods and mudslides. Civilian facilities like the bus-stand, BSNL towers, hospitals, the runway of the Leh airport and the ATC towers have been affected, often badly.
The road approaches to Leh from Srinagar through Zozilla and from Rohtang Pass have been cut-off due to washing away of bridges by mudslides. As many as 25 Army Jawans are reported missing. According to another report three personnel of Army Service Corps have died in the tragedy and four policemen perished during rescue work. The Defence Institute of High Altitude Research of DRDO has also been damaged.

Jammu, Aug 6: At least 30 persons, including women and children had a miraculous escape today after the bus in which they were traveling was washed away in a flash flood in a nallahs at Kalarah, near Nowshera in Rajuori.
Police sources said bus JK02-1791 crossing the culvert at Kalara when flash flood in the nallahs washed it away. About 30 persons, who were in a bus however, survived with minor injuries has all of them were rescued by local who were standing near by sources added.
Injured were hospitalized.

The 7- year old girl identified as Reena Anguri daughter of Babu Lal resident of Shatarpur at present Shastri Nagar was missing few days back and a report in this regard was lodged with Gandhi Nagar police station. Rajouri, Aug 6: In an encounter between militants and security forces, one army follower has reportedly been killed while two militants have been trapped in a house in Chiti Bhatti village of Mendher tehsil in district Poonch. The encounter was on till the last reports came in.

Rajouri, Aug 6: Incessant rainfall for the last more than 30 hours in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch has claimed lives of three kids near LoC when a house was collapsed due to landslides.
As per sources, three kids were killed and one injured when a house came under the landslide. The incident took place in Makri area near Line of Control in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district. The deceased children have been identified as Sumit Kumar, 4, son of Pritim Dass and his sister Roobi Devi, 10 and Renu Devi daughter of Babu Ram. Meanwhile, Sonika Devi, another daughter of Pritim Dass is battling life in the Sub District Hospital Nowshera.

Dharamsala,Aug 6: All the monasteries in Buddhist-dominated Leh town in Ladakh region that was hit by flash floods are safe, a Tibetan official said here Friday.
Atleast 80 people have been killed and over 300 injured in the flash floods in Leh, triggered by a cloudburst that hit the town around midnight Thursday.
