SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Raising questions over Omar Abdullah government’s competence of holding custody of Kashmir’s revered shrines, a group of people today clashed with Police and Auqaf authorities at Hazratbal even after the administration’s surrender and replacement of the Police deployment. Sixteen civilians and seventeen Police and CRPF personnel sustained injuries in another clash at Janab Sahib Soura. Amid shutdown, demonstrators clashed with security forces at several places including at Seelu in Sopore where at least five civilians and a CRPF soldier sustained injuries.
Daily prayers have not been held at Kashmir’s most revered shrine of Hazratbal since Friday last when a group of people had clashed with Police, captured the public address system and shouted pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans. JAMMU, Aug 19: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah explained away his concept of autonomy for the state, regional autonomy and devolution of power while talking to reporters in Jammu on Wednesday. He said: He stands for autonomy for the state, autonomy for the regions and autonomy for the sub-regions. The upshot of his whole autonomy formulation was that the state has to become autonomous and Jammu and Ladakh would get some autonomy within that autonomous state. JAMMU, Aug 19: No prayers could be offered in Hazratbal shrine for the sixth consecutive day today as the people are demanding shifting of police barracks from the shrine complex however a reluctant administration is yet to respond.
The District Magistrate, Mairaj-ud-Din Kakroo, SSP Srinagar Ashiq Bukhari and other officials visited the area yesterday to assess the situation. JAMMU, Aug 19: Police today found the bodies of the shepherds -- Nanak Chand and Javed Ahmad -- who were shot dead by militants at Kousar Nag mountain peak on the Reasi-Kulgam border.
They hailed from Sukha village of Chasana in Reasi and had gone to Kousar Nag to graze their cattle. Both of them were beleived to have been killed by militants Tuesday night.

JAMMU, Aug 19: Two persons were arrested at Nagri Toll Post today while they were trying to smuggle 720 kilograms of poppy straw in a truck to Punjab. They were identified as Harpal Singh and Yashpal Singh of Moga, Punjab.
Official sources said excise department guards recovered 720 kg poppy straw from a truck during its checking at the Nagri toll post. The truck, which had come from Srinagar, was on its way to Punjab, the sources added.

New Delhi, Aug 19: Three more deaths of Army men in recent floods have been reported from Leh. This has been stated by Ministry of Defence here today.
The latest disclosure by the Ministry takes the total number of casualty of Army personnel in the recent floods to 23. This includes three Junior Commissioned Officers, or JCOs. Twelve other personnel are still said to be missing ever since the tragedy that caught Leh unawares in the wake of a cloudburst that spelt death and devastation during the wee hours of August 6.
The Ministry today said that 19 columns of Army personnel were still busy in the rescue and relief task in the affected areas of Leh.
