Tourist resorts on sale | Govt mulls to lease out land to 'influential families' | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 6: In what could turn out to be another land scam, the state government is contemplating to lease out state land at some prime tourist resorts across the state to some influential families in the garb of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to develop tourist infrastructure.
"PPP is merely an eyewash, the actual plan is to bless their nears and dears, with natural beauty of Jammu and Kashmir," said a source in know of the matter.
He said the "influential families" have been asked to submit proposal for "PPP mode use of land at prime locations."
Sources said some senior officials were being empowered to lease out the resources on PPP basis.
Sources said at least three ministers and their associates from the business fraternity in Kashmir have already started lobbying for allotment of land. "Apart from construction of hotels, they plan to raise model villages in some virgin areas," the sources said.

RAJOURI, Dec 6: Even as bridge usually connects two roads across a river, the Department of Rural Development (RDD) has started work on a culvert over a canal having no roads on either side raising eyebrows over the execution of this "illogical work."
Officials said that engineers have sanctioned construction of a culvert when it has no adjoining roads. While the government is spending over Rs 13 lakh on the project, officials said this all was being done to favor a political family who has been allotted this work.

Jammu, Dec 6: CRPF which was looking for better bullet proof armour, got a shot in the arm when Ministry of Home Affairs approved additional bullet proof vehicles and jackets for the force in insurgency hit Jammu and Kashmir.
The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir informed Lok Sabha that 292 light bullet proof vehicles and 309 medium bullet proof vehicles are available with the units engaged in security and counter terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
MHA has sanctioned purchase of 210 light bullet proof vehicles and 45 medium bullet proof vehicles.
