Kishtwar, July 10: An amount of nearly Rs 15 lakh sanctioned by the Centre for taking students of government schools of Kishtwar district to excursion trips has been embezzled by the Education Department in league with the schools' authorities.
The Centre, under Rashtriya Madimik Shiksha Abyan (RMSA) had provided over Rs 15 lakh to 68 high/higher secondary schools in Kishtwar in last three years as a picnic fund. However, authorities of various schools, in nexus with officials of the Education Department, have embezzled the MONEY, as no excursion trip by any school was organized during the period when the money was transferred to heads of 68 schools.
As per the documents available with Early Times, on September 15, 2014, Chief Education Officer Kishtwar wrote to manager J&K Bank Kishtwar asking him to debit an amount of Rs 3,88,400 for excursion of 1942 students from his official account (No. 0570040500002477) and credit the same in favour of accounts of Principals/Headmasters concerned.

JAMMU, July 10: Confrontation is brewing between Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and administration of Government Medical College (GMC) over the later claiming of building not having been handed over to them besides lodging an FIR against the former.
The two are at loggerheads with each other after the recent fire incident in which 108 batteries of CT scan machine had got completely destroyed. State government took note of this grave incident. Minister for Health and Medical Education reached super-speciality hospital with his whole team and without even ascertaining the factual position, ordered lodging of an FIR against CPWD.

JAMMU, July 10: After "boycotting" function at Kathua district in which Union Minister, Dr Jatindra Singh was guest of honour, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh made it a point to ensure that his arch rivals would not attend the function which was held two days back to install statue of Dr Shyama Parshad Mukherjee at Jammu.

JAMMU, July 10: Amid state government's efforts to contain menace of corruption in the state, many officers of the government are misusing the facilities provided to them for the effective discharge of their duties, denting the public exchequer in the process.

Jammu, July 10: There is just one permanent lecturer at Government Higher Secondary School Chiralla against the sanctioned posts of 14, with around 500 students on rolls.
Rakesh Kumar, sarpanch of Sonarthawa, told Early Times that the government upgraded GHSS Chiralla in 2009 and sanctioned 14 posts of lecturers. But since then only one post has been filled.
In the absence of permanent lecturers, contractual staffers are manning the affairs of the school. Criticizing the government, Kumar said the inordinate delay in filing up the posts has affected the studies of the students.
