Worrisome Valley makes Omar to ask Centre for a political solution to Kashmir | | | ABID SHAH

NEW DELHI, Aug 2: Once again Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has tried together with the Centre to bring peace back home and rein in rampaging youth who have been defying curfew and confronting police often at the cost of their lives since June 11. To pacify tempers Omar met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his top Cabinet colleagues here today for the second time in two weeks and demanded a "political package" for his troubled State for the sake of stable order.
And, thus, today's talks here at the 7, Race Course Road residence of Manmohan Singh inevitably point to external dimensions of the current trouble in the border State. Significantly, as per reports External Affairs Minister SM Krishna too was present during today's meeting of Omar Abdullah with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Krishna has earlier been to Pakistan for talks with the leaders of the neighbouring country where the two sides could not reach on any agreement except to keep the doors open for talks in future.

Srinagar, Aug 2: In the continuous spate of violence, defying curfew restrictions, five more protestors died during clashes with police in different parts of valley. On rampage spree, as the violent mobs resorted to stone pelting , targeting government buldings and public property, the security forces opened fire to disperse them which resulted in fresh casualties today. | | Bridge on Poonch-Rawalkote road rebuilt | | | JAMMU: The bridge on Rangar nullah, which was Friday washed away from Indian side in flash floods, has been reconstructed for cross-LoC trade and bus service.
It connects Chakan da Bagh cross-LoC point in Poonch with Rawalkote in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
"The bridge has been rebuilt at a height of a 50 ft from the nullah bed with the support of steel girders and pillars," official sources said.
The Poonch deputy commissioner Kuldeep Khajuria said the bridge had been rebuilt on war-footing as it was the only road link between Poonch and Rawalkote in PoK. Any delay in this regard could have affected the cross-LoC trade and bus service, he added.
