TOP STORY OF THE DAY
6 months on, Government fails to terminate re-employed officials
9/15/2015 11:48:34 PM
Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 15: Six months down the line Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Government in the State has failed to follow up its order that was issued with respect to the termination of re-employed or re-appointed officials in the Government departments. Soon after taking charge in March the coalition Government in the State headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed issued an order under which the extension of services of the re-appointed and re-employed officials in the Government department was done away with. It was expected that the order would be implemented in letter and spirit, but that has not happened up to this moment of time. Sources told Early Times that the order was half-hearted one since it was not followed by corresponding order of General Administration Department (GAD). As the subsequent order was not issued it became evident that the State Government is not serious in terminating services of re-employed or re-appointed officials. "Barring a few officials no action whatsoever was taken with respect to term...

Tax on Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage
9/15/2015 11:48:27 PM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 15: The 'concern' shown by BJP leaders against the tax imposed on Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage has been so poor that they did not even bother to write a formal protest letter to the Government. Sources in the Chief Minister's Secretariat and the office of Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu, who imposed tax on the pilgrimage, said they were yet to receive any formal correspondence from the BJP leadership in protest against the September 2 order. "Since the Government has not received any formal request or memorandum from them (BJP), there's no chance of getting the orders revoked," said a senior official in the Civil Secretariat, asking not to be named. He s...

This fanatic had said that he will invite Hindus and Muslims to a party where beef would be served to the Muslims and vegetarian food to his Hindu guests. His statement had evoked response on expected lines in the Kashmir valley and Jammu region. In Kashmir, all the so-called mainstream political parties, including the NC, appreciated Malik for his outrageous stand. In Jammu, his statement evoked a very strong reaction. The Jammu-based state-level leadership fielded MLC Ramesh Arora to assu...

Emboldened by CM's statement, Karra hits out at New Delhi yet again
'Delay in package adding to alienation, denting Govt's credibility'
9/15/2015 11:47:58 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 15: Two days after the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed covertly and in a discreet manner hit out at delay in Central package for the State, PDP's veteran leader and MP Tariq Hamid Karra took a dig at the Centre contending that this attitude of New Delhi was not only increasing the alienation of masses but also denting the credibility of the alliance Government in J&K. Known for making bold, loud and straight statements, Karra minced no words in likening delay in granting the much awaited package to truancy of centre which he said is only giving rhetorical assurances. He based his criticism on the fact that cynicism is mounting among people over what he...

Talks only over Pok, Gilgit-Baltistan
9/15/2015 11:47:46 PM
ET Report JAMMU, Sept 15: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh did the right thing when he at Bhopal the other day set the record straight and told Pakistan that Jammu & Kashmir was an integral part of India and it shall ever remain so. He said the only issue that New Delhi was prepared to discuss with Pakistan was the political future of Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir, which had been under the illegal occupation of Pakistan for almost seven decades now. "The country will not hesitate in retaliating if someone fires first and asserted the Government is ready to talk to Pakistan over PoK and not Kashmir. India always wants good friendly relations with its neighbours and continues with its...

There are reports that in various areas, NC workers are issuing ration cards and even sanction water connections. There are erstwhile municipal councillors belonging to the NC who continue to rule the roost here and people in droves have to seek their approval before availing any services from the Government.
