BJP not averse to Mehbooba becoming CM
10/24/2015 12:37:11 AM
Majid Nabi Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 23: The BJP, an ally in the PDP-led coalition Government in J&K, has said it would welcome Mehbooba Mufti as next Chief Minister of the State if her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed decides to step down. A top BJP leader said though his party has no information about Mehbooba replacing her father as CM, the party leadership feels there is no harm if the Muftis decide so. "We really don't have any information about the issue. As far as Mehbooba is concerned, she is a dynamic leader and most popular face of the State. Hence BJP is not going to challenge any decision of Mufti," the BJP leader told Early Times on the condition of anonymity. PDP sources however said the move might not go down well with a section of the party leadership that is pressing for its inclusion in Union Ministry. "There is clear-cut direction form PDP patron Mufti Sayeed not to challenge the authority of Mehbooba. However, there are some leaders within the party who might oppose the move," a source in PDP told Early Times. Notably, Mufti has made it clear to the par...

Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 23: After two of its founding members and MPs, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh and Tariq Hamid Karra recently skipped an 'important' meeting of the PDP which was chaired by party president Mehbooba Mufti, its leadership has started looking for reasons for the apparent cracks in the 17-year-old party. It is believed that differences have been caused due to dubious role played by some government officials, who in the garb of being PDP loyalists have proved black sheep working at the behest of a coterie of ministers. While Mehbooba and her father, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed recently conveyed to the party cadres that their relation with the BJP was strong en...
