Immediate change of guard likely in National Conference
7/19/2010 10:11:15 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 19: For the first time since its coming into being, the National Conference (NC) may be headed by a non-Sheikh family member, or to put it plainly `by an outsider' in the coming days. This is what people close to the organization anticipate. Interestingly, the affairs of the organization may no longer remain a ‘private affair’ of the Sheikh family. The rift in the NC leadership came to surface a few months ago when a New Delhi based newspaper reported it. The report said a ‘close friend’ of the Chief Minister did not like seniors like Abdul Rahim Rather and Ali Muhammad Sagar. The report, quoting sources, mentioned that senior Ministers, Abdul Rahim Rathe...

Real test for Omar to unmask 'mantris', ensure clean cabinet, admn
CORRUPTION TURBULENCE
7/19/2010 10:11:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 19: Even as Omar Abdullah has managed to get new lease of life for himself and his alliance government in the wake of trouble that took the entire Valley by storm , post crisis period is proving to be no less daunting and challenging for the Chief Minister. In less than a week's time when the Valley is yet to 'convalesce' fully to normal situation, the NC led coalition government is rocked with another turbulence- the brazen allegations of rampant corruption and the tainted mantris having almost plundered the state. Corruption is no new menace in the state nor is the phrase 'tainted ministers' something unknown in J&K state. Post 1989 , particularly aft...

Relations between BJP and Pakistani Army, Ayesha Siddiqa exposes BJP
7/19/2010 10:10:01 PM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 19: This writer has been repeatedly pointing out in these columns that the so-called patriotic BJP and the Pakistani Army, whose writ runs in the country, appear to be on the same page. Why have I been pointing out that it appears to be so? Why because while the Army feels that the BJP can deliver, the BJP, on the other hand, believes that since the Hindus pin their faith in this party, it would be very easy for it to reach any kind of settlement with Pakistan and put the same in the Hindus market for sale, who would buy it as an elixir to the national life. (Muslims would be no problem, as they would accept the settlement very cheerfully.) The BJ...
